City Collects 152 Tons of Trash During Great Savannah Cleanup

SAVANNAH, GA (June 5, 2018) — The City of Savannah and more than four dozen neighborhood associations joined the Great Savannah Cleanup and removed trash and blight from their neighborhoods during the month of May.

Fifty Savannah neighborhoods participated in the Great Savannah Cleanup and the City’s Sanitation Department collected more than 152 tons of bulk item trash, including old furniture and appliances, from neighborhoods across the four zones.

Eleven of the 50 neighborhoods also participated in a Saturday “clean sweep” where litter and small trash was targeted by residents and sanitation workers.

Zone 4 was the largest contributor of bulk items with 48 tons.

Director of Sanitation Gene Prevatt said “We are extremely pleased with the participation, we appreciate all the neighborhood associations who coordinated with us to make this a successful event.”

The Great Savannah Cleanup is being held in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful’s 20th Anniversary of the nation-wide Great American Cleanup.
