500 City Employees to Join in Citywide Litter Pickup Effort

SAVANNAH, GA (February 28, 2019) — Hundreds of City employees will take a break from their normal work to pick up litter throughout Savannah on Friday, complementing the efforts of more than 75 organizations that will participate in Saturday’s Great Savannah Litter Pickup.

The massive anti-litter effort will culminate with a news conference at 1 p.m. Saturday in Thomas Park, next to the Bull Street Library. A new Police litter enforcement initiative, and the next phase of the communitywide anti-litter marketing campaign will also be launched at the event.

Friday’s litter pickup will involve more than 500 employees, who will pick up litter at 33 locations across Savannah. To allow this participation, a number of City services outside public safety will be closed on Friday. Parking Services Offices will be closed, as will Development Services, which includes most permitting and inspections services. While the City’s Golden Age programs will remain open, other community center activities will cease operation.

Police and Fire will have normal operations, as will Recorder’s Court and most Water and Sewer operations. Utility bill payments and processing services will also operate as normal.
